Schools’ dreams coming true with competition win
Three schools’ dreams have come true.
Bayfair Shopping Centre recently ran a competition with a community edge.
During August 27-September 7, shoppers who spent $20 were able to vote for the coastal school of their choice and prize money would go towards school initiatives.
The most voted for school was Te Kura o Matapihi which won $5000.
The rural school’s wish was to use prize money to go towards new music equipment the students, their performing arts, drama and plays.
Second prize of $3000 went to St Thomas More Catholic School which plans on using the money towards their Gardening Club and planting more trees.
The school will extend their vegetable gardens to grow food for Tauranga Foodbank while teaching the children about helping those in need and sustainability.
The third prize of $1000 went to Arataki School which plans to spend the money on new sports uniforms and equipment.
Te Kura o Matapihi students will use their $5000 windfall for new music equipment.
