You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but you can teach kids to be safe with dogs.

An­i­mates have part­nered with the Kids Safe­with Dogs Char­i­ta­ble Trust to bring free ses­sions teach­ing chil­dren dog safety and the cor­rect­way to in­ter­act with dogs.

An­i­mates stores across the coun­try— in­clud­ing Mount Maun­ganui and Tau­ranga— will be host­ing ses­sions on Oc­to­ber 4 and Oc­to­ber 11 at the stores at 11am and 2pm.

Staffwill run the ses­sions and guide chil­dren through real-life sce­nar­ios, and teach­ing cor­rect be­hav­iour with their own dogs and the dogs they see on the street.

The ses­sions will cover how to ap­proach a dog, how and where to pat a dog, mak­ing eye con­tact with a dog and body lan­guage as well as learn­ing to ask per­mis­sion be­fore ap­proach­ing a dog. Staffmem­ber­swill be avail­able for ques­tions.
