New re­tail­ers in Tau­riko

Phase one of Tau­ranga Cross­ing’s mall opened last week to cheers and cus­tomers look­ing for bar­gains.

This is the first phase of the $150mil­lion en­closed mall be­ing built in the Tau­riko shop­ping cen­tre, which also has an ope­nair re­tail hub and a big box life­style cen­tre with Farm­ers across the road.

The first phase in­cluded 15 stores, among them ser­vices such as beauty ther­a­pists, home­wares and elec­tron­ics stores and a seven-dayASB Bank branch.

The open­ing was blessed by a kauma ¯tua and some re­tail­ers of­fered spe­cials and ac­tiv­i­ties for the kids to cel­e­brate.

Tau­ranga Cross­ing chief ex­ec­u­tive Steve Lewis says about 30,000 squareme­tres of the cen­tre is now open.

The sec­ond phase of the en­closed mall is due to open in April next year.

It will in­clude a dou­ble-level con­course of fash­ion, din­ing and en­ter­tain­ment of­fer­ings, as well as a three-level, cov­ered carpark.

This will bring the to­tal area of the shop­ping mall to about 45,000sqm with more than 100 shop­ping, din­ing and en­ter­tain­ment out­lets.

Early plan­ning was un­der way for fu­ture ex­pan­sions that would take the cen­tre to about 70,000sq m.

Steve said there­was no def­i­nite time­line for those de­vel­op­ments but he ex­pected they would start in the next few years.

■ New stores of phase one in­clude Ac­qui­si­tions, ASB, Board­er­town, EB Games, En­joy Mas­sage, Ever­last Nails, Health 2000, Just Cuts, Ki­wibank, Minute Man, OPSM, Phone Life, Stevens, Whit­coulls and $2 Things.

ASB Bank in Tau­ranga Cross­ing mall cel­e­brated the open­ing with a colour­ing com­pe­ti­tion, face-paint­ing and give­aways. Mercy Mu­tale gets her face painted by Jackie Goody.
