Aproject designed to raise money for amuch-needed playground will have hundreds of people lacing up their running shoes next month.

The annual Golden Sands School Fun Run & Walk is gearing up for another event to raise funds for the school.

With increasing students numbers at the school the original playground was developed for 80 pupils when the school opened.

Today the school has a roll of 620 children and a new playground is important.

Principal Melanie Taylor says the Fun Run is awonderful opportunity to welcome everyone to the school for a great day out.

“Therewill be something for everyone to enjoy.”

Last week All Black Nathan Harris visited the school for a chat and to offer students some helpful advice.

“Exercise with my family is very important forme and it doesn’t matter what age your children are.

“I walkwith my daughter, who is four months old, train with my brother who loves surf life saving and I have the odd game of touch rugby with my parents.”

“Coming along to a fun run or walk is a great way to get everyone together and have some fun. I’m happy to support any event that gets a community together. The school needs a new

playground, so the event is raising money for a great cause.”

Melanie says Nathanwas keen to be the first one to have a go on the new playground.

“Having Nathan’s support is great, and getting him along to school to meet some of our young rugby players was wonderful. He’s even ‘bagsed’ the first go on the playground, and we’re more than happy to accommodate.”

Event Director Lesley Park says the fun run is a huge community event.

She was encouraging everyone to give it a go and says there would be entertainment afterwards.

Last year the run attracted more than 1000 participants, and this time around its even bigger than last year with hundreds of spot prizes and generous race packs, she says.

Spot prizes include a $1000 House of Travel Pa¯pa¯moa Vouchers, $500 Mega Mitre 10 Tauranga voucher, Vikings adults Kayak, Weeni Wave kids kayak, $250 Z Pa¯pa¯moa petrol vouchers, Dental Plus Hygienist and teeth whitening voucher worth $928, three $250 Freedom Furniture vouchers and one year of swimming coaching at Barletts Swim School Pa¯pa¯moa, plus much more.

“Once again our generous sponsors Golden Sands Development, Next Door Realty, Bay Civil, 4 Square Pa¯pa¯moa and S & L Consultants have come on board to make our event possible. We’re excited to hosting this major event in Pa¯pa¯moa’s calendar and to fundraise for a beautiful new playground.”

The Golden Sands School Fun Run & Walk is a popular event for the whole family.
