CUPRA FUTURE
LOOK OUT for Cupra’s new Formentor SUV in New Zealand mid-year. Think of it as a coupe version of the Ateca (it’s roughly the same size), but it’s going to be a more special model for Cupra because there’s no direct Seat-branded equivalent.
However, it’ll also make Cupra a bit more accessible. Formentor will be available in a lower-powered $54,900 V 4Drive version (140kw), as well as the full $68,900 VZ (221kw) specification.
There will also be Cupra versions of the all-new Leon VZ hatch ($59,900) and Leon VZ Sportstourer ($65,900).
They both have the 221kw powerplant; but the hatch is FWD, while the Sportstourer gets AWD.
Plug-in hybrid iterations of both Formentor and Leon are a possibility for future release (both 150kw).
One model we sadly won’t see is the Formentor VZ5, a limited-run roadrocket that picks up the throaty fivecylinder engine from the Audi RS Q3. It’s left-hand drive only.
