Impressive design and finish boast unique features and fires

- By Jo Ferris

Properties built on a grand scale – given the advantage of a bigbudget spend – have that other distinct advantage of a position of privilege. There’s no question this property ticks that box with aplomb. It goes another step further, however – stepping away from conventional design, with a home that takes contemporary character to the next level. The exterior has a subtle industrial theme – hints of stacked containers introducing straight lines and a clever mix of materials that define its texture and tone. Hiding up a shared drive on an elevated ridge in Bethlehem, the house overlooks this leafy neighbourhood to enjoy a sunny vista and glowing sunsets at the end of the day. Views can be enjoyed inside or out – thanks to wellplaced, full-height glazing and significant outdoor flow. Family living slips outside to a main balcony – sheltered overhead with motorised louvre roofing and feature fireplace providing a cosy area to toast sunset. Glass balustrades allow a seamless outlook from this grandstand. But it’s just one of the various places to relish the outdoor connection this home boasts. Another balcony – semi enclosed by solid balustrades and offering full-sun relaxation – extends living off the second living room. With its own gas fire inside, the mood is more intimate in this lounge, yet its waving link with the family hub nearby maintains this home’s intriguing flow.

Yet more outdoor flow sits at the rear of the house. This is the breakfast corner – a suntrap deck that links the family hub with three bedrooms. This house has five – three upstairs and two on the lower level to present the obvious options for work to home hosting or sharing time with extended family. Three bathrooms give further credence to this home’s flexibility – particularly with the fifth ensuite bedroom downstairs. With its own access off the drive, it is ideal for work; while also providing a natural bedsit haven for guests or teens.

The detail within this home is impressive.the size and scale are enviable. But all the intricate features make it stand out – both in terms of design and finish. The gourmet kitchen is a cook’s dream. It revolves around entertaining and serves a multitude of experiences – from casual chatter around the island, to formal dining and outdoor alfresco areas either side. Fireside comfort is luxurious. Apart from the outdoor fire on the front balcony and gas fire in the formal lounge, there’s a double-side gas fire in a central wall dividing dining and family living. Inset display niches in rooms throughout the house also highlight the craftmanship and unique design behind its conception.

Then there are the unseen features – underfloor heating throughout the entire first level and spot lighting among them. It is an outstanding house - and an exceptional opportunity in a sought-after area of Bethlehem.
