PLANNING FOR MOTHER’S DAY, which is this Sunday, should be top of mind right now for those of you that are lucky enough to have a Mum still around. It is a time when all mothers should be spoiled for at least a day.

It’s the one day that my kids will spoil me. I am looking forward to it!

So, what are some options for your mother this year? Living gifts are one of the first things that spring to mind for me personally. Plants, whether they be for the garden are what I like most. They are colourful, come in many shapes and forms, can be productive and help feed the family, give fragrance, look beautiful and last for months if not years.

Ideas include bright, colourful and affordable cyclamen. These are one of the best value flowering plants that are perfect for Mother’s Day. Red, white, pink, two toned or purple flowers adorn these plants for months. There are mini-cyclamen as well which look great planted in a bowl and used as a centre piece on the table, either indoors or out.

Other ideas for indoors include fragrant hyacinths, beautiful phalaenopsis orchids, kalanchoes,

chrysanthemums or anthuriums, all in flower now. You could also give something that will suit the outdoors like a flowering hanging basket, a potted dwarf lemon or lime tree, gardenia or vireya rhodo.

Another great gift idea is snazzy waterproof shoes, great for the stylish gardening Mum. Match them up with a kneeling pad, some Royal Horticultural garden tools, body care products and she will be the envy of the neighbourhood. It is getting cooler now so a new scarf will go down well.

At Decor Gardenworld we have all of the above, plus plenty of other gifts like Nz-made hand and body lotions, jewellery, scarves and Morris and James pottery. Remember too, we have a great cafe in the Heart of Decor so why not a breakfast or brunch shout out? Otherwise, a gift voucher for the garden or brunch at a later time is always a good idea.

Whatever you do this Mother’s Day, enjoy the day with your family.
