THE SITUATION

HLHigh pressure covers most of the country today as a front approaches from the Tasman Sea and develops into a low west of the South Island. The low and associated fronts affect the South Island and western and southern parts of the North Island tomorrow, before moving away to the east on Saturday. Another front moves onto the lower South Island later on Saturday. On Sunday, a narrow ridge over the North Island weakens, while northerlies strengthen ahead of yet another front that moves onto the South Island.
