THE SITUATION

HLA broad low is approaching from the Tasman Sea, and should be centred west of Buller at midnight tonight. The low is spreading frontal rain bands onto Aotearoa New Zealand. A strong warm north to northeasterly flow over the country, is turning strong cold southerly over the south of the South Island.

Today: Cloudy with drizzle, turning to patchy rain towards midday. Northeasterlies becoming strong in the morning.

Tomorrow: Rain with heavy falls, easing late. Fresh northerlies. Saturday: Showers, clearing in the evening but remaining cloudy. Westerlies developing in the morning.
