Asia Pacific Superyachts NZ: refit service collective

-

NEW ZEALAND AGENT, Asia Pacific Superyachts New Zealand, has expanded its services to give clients direct access to all refit partners.

The shore-side support company has selected some of New Zealand’s best refit service providers to deliver a centralised service, including Titan Marine Engineering, Oceania Marine and Babcock (NZ) Ltd, as well as specialist large yacht refit project managers, MML. These companies have worked on Arctic P, Mayan Queen and superyacht A, among others.

Asia Pacific Superyachts New Zealand is led by Jeanette Tobin and Duthie Lidgard who saw an increasing need for quality refit services for yachts cruising the Pacific.

Those services include access to a dry dock of 181m, a 1500 GRT slipway in central Auckland, a 100T travel lift, and repair berths to 190m.

Those contractors work to ABS, Lloyds, International Classification Society Bureau Veritas and MCA codes and classifications, and carry out 10-year surveys.

“After 12 years of business we know who are the most reliable and cost-effective contractors in the country,” Lidgard says. “With a strong track record in agency work and the sourcing of parts, moving in the direction of refit was a natural progression for the team.”

The agency doesn’t charge for this service and is happy to introduce the yacht to its vetted yards and project managers and oversee the work, or simply make the introduction.

Recent projects by Asia Pacific Superyachts New Zealand’s partners include a seven-year refit of Arctic P, an extensive refit of a Damen Sea Axe, and a full refit of the heritage Feadship vessel, Alchemy. Hutchwilco operations manager Bernard Orme says the acquisition of Diversified Products’ range is part of Hutchwilco’s continual strategy to build its portfolio and to offer a wider range of products to its customers.

“The combination of Hutchwilco and the Diversified Products brands will provide our customers with a wider range of products along with a broader and improved inventory,” says Orme.

“We see the acquisition being good for everyone involved, including our retailers.”

Hutchwilco’s acquisition of the distribution and sale of Diversified Products’ extensive range of marine products and accessories was effective in May. The acquisition includes Line 7 lifejacket products, but not the Tohatsu range of outboard engines and parts currently distributed by Diversified Products. VOLVO PENTA HAS doubled the warranty on genuine Volvo Penta parts and accessories that are purchased and installed at a Volvo Penta dealer – creating even better protection for customers.

Volvo Penta already offered a comprehensive 12-month warranty on genuine Volvo Penta parts but that warranty has extended to 24 months for parts and accessories that are purchased and fitted at an authorised Volvo Penta dealer. Wayne Patten, managing director of Volpower, the New Zealand distributor for Volvo Penta, says the warranty covers the part and the labour involved in fitting the part.

“We already provide a generous warranty on our genuine Volvo Penta parts and accessories,” he says, “and this will continue as a benefit for all Volvo Penta customers. But we wanted to offer an extra level of protection for customers who buy parts and have them installed through our Volvo Penta dealers.”

When customers purchase genuine Volvo Penta parts or accessories and have them installed by a Volvo Penta dealer, they know the parts have been fitted correctly for optimum function and reliability. Genuine Volvo Penta parts are engineered to the exact specifications and tolerances of Volvo Penta engines and have been designed to work in perfect harmony with one another. Using genuine parts also helps maintain optimal fuel efficiency, minimising fuel costs and emissions.

“With Volvo Penta, every link in the chain is strong. We offer high-quality spare parts specifically engineered for our engines, as well as outstanding service and expertise. But if something does go wrong, our warranty coverage – both standard and now extended – provides a first-class back-up,” says Patten.

Volpower has 21 authorised dealers throughout New Zealand and Fiji providing expert advice and service for Volvo Penta marine and industrial engines.

The fitted-parts warranty is in place and retroactive for any parts purchased and installed since January 1, 2015. Exclusions on 12 and 24-month warranties include all wear and tear on parts.

The fitted-parts warranty is for 24 months or 3000 hours (industrial), 1000 hours (marine commercial) or 600 hours (marine leisure), whichever comes first. www.volpower.co.nz
