Boating NZ publisher Tim Porter travelled to Florida in May for the official launch of BRP’S new joystick control system for Evinrude E-TEC G2 outboards.

BRP’S Evinrude idock joystick piloting system is designed to instil 360-degrees of confidence when docking your boat, according to the Evinrude people.

Available on boats with twin Evinrude E-TEC G2 150 to 300hp engines, the easy-to-use joystick technology is fully integrated for seamless operation.

Evinrude idock allows simple docking in even the toughest conditions. Using the joystick system, a skipper can side-step the boat or pivot the vessel in place with fingertip control.

The on-water demonstrations were impressive to watch, says Tim, who also got to try idock for himself, successfully docking a variety of vessels during the BRP press day.

Advanced aircraft gyroscope sensor technology automatically compensates for wind and current, making idock more intuitive to pilot, and if extra power is needed to overcome wind or current, boaters can simply push the stick further into boost position to double the thrust.

The system is very simple to master, says Tim, and is in no way daunting, even for first-time boaters.

A fully-integrated system, Evinrude idock connects with the existing internal hydraulic steering feature of Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines, reducing the cost of parts and saving space since no extra equipment is required. idock models follow the same installation process as Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines and typically require less than one hour of on-the-water setup. “Our goal with the Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines was to design a platform with unlimited potential for continued technological enhancement and innovation,” says Olivier Pierini, Evinrude director of global marketing and strategic planning. “The intuitive nature of the technology will give even novice boaters immediate confidence in their ability to dock any boat equipped with Evinrude E-TEC engines easily. And by using technology that is already built in to the engine, it is significantly more affordable than any other joystick system on the market. This all adds up to a level of on-the- water confidence you can’t live without.” BNZ

Super-quiet, the Deluxe Flush models’ design is very hygienic and easy to clean. The Deluxe Flush toilets are supplied with a sophisticated new one-touch control pad, controlling total water usage and whether to leave the bowl dry or wet.
