Greenhithe’s Nick Waite is the lucky winner of Boating New Zealand’s dinghy and outboard subscriber competition.

The package – worth $4,000 – comprises a 3m True Kit Tactician inflatable dinghy and a F2.5hp Yamaha four-stroke outboard. Waite is a relatively new boatie, but says the dinghy is perfect for introducing his two daughters – Sophie (8) and Chloe (6) – to the sheer joy of messing about in boats. “To say that the girls are pleased is something of an understatement.” When Boating discovered that the Waites were new to boating – and that none of them owned a lifejacket, a quick call to Survitec Group sorted the problem. The company kindly donated RFD lifejackets for the two girls and dad. The True Kit is a three-man dinghy, so Mum will have to swim or watch from the shore!

Waite says the boat will probably be used most extensively down at Pauanui, where his in-laws have a home on the estuary.

“I can think of nothing more rewarding than exploring that estuary with the two girls.”

Have boat, ready to explore. From L-R: Sophie, Nick, Truekit supplier Rod Dawson, Chloe and Boating’s Brett Patterson.
