The world’s largest manufacturer of production catamarans, Bordeaux-based Lagoon is in serious expansion mode. The factory produces 350 vessels a year (power and sail, 38-78 feet LOA), and the plan, says sales manager Yann Wachten, is to boost this to 700. He says the factory’s struggling to meet demand – orders are now being taken for delivery in 2020.

It’s an ambitious goal, but one helped by Lagoon being part of the Beneteau conglomerate. The organisation – which also owns CNB yachts – delivers around 9000 vessels a year. Production line efficiencies perfected at the various factories are being implemented at the Lagoon facility.

The boats are launched at the site – on the banks of the Garonne River. It’s around 100km from the river’s Atlantic mouth. Boats are typically sailed from the factory by owners themselves or delivered to a French or Mediterranean port for shipping.
