LIGHTHOUSE IN COLOUR?

Iam the author of Tiritiri Matangi: A Model of Conservation and a guide on Tiri. I am also a former Coastguard Radio Operator and a retired sailor. The Tiritiri Lighthouse is white now, but from 1865 – 1950 it was painted a dark red colour.

We have many black and white photos of the ‘red’ lighthouse, but not one colour photo.

We have searched in museums and libraries without success. I am still hoping that somewhere, someone has a colour photo and it could easily be a boatie who was also a keen photographer.
