Start collecting for the Small Holders Auction

- By DAVE MURDOCH

In 2016 chattels for Dannevirke’s Small Holders Auction covered half the oval at the A&P Showgrounds, the shearing venue contained 97 lots of poultry and rabbits and there were small numbers of other animals in the livestock pens ranging from sheep to working dogs and alpacas.

The project is a combined effort by the Dannevirke A&P Association and Dannevirke Host Lions. The Lions’ share of the proceeds ($2500) was donated to the Palmerston North Helicopter earlier in the year and chief pilot Chris Moody visited Lions last week to express his gratitude. He said donations help to raise the $800,000 shortfall in operating costs, the Government supplying the other $800,000.

He explained that the Rescue Helicopter Service is increasingly busy doing accident and health related callouts as well as other services like helping with search and rescue work and armed offenders callouts. They even carry the police dogs.

The Small Holders Auction is on April 22, just a month away. It is easy to bring in items you want to sell. The auction takes as commission 20 per cent of the proceeds of chattels and 10 per cent of animal sales. Anything selling under $10 goes to the auction proceeds. You can bring in the goods on Friday afternoon or register on Saturday from 6.30am.

All animals are welcome except cattle and registered on Saturday.
