Evita almost ready for Dannevirke stage

- By DAVE MURDOCH

Dannevirke Theatre Company’s production of Evita is building to opening night.

The local cast of 35 with 25 crew members and an 11-piece orchestra has been rehearsing five days a week and has already had full dress rehearsal run-throughs.

“It’s great to see the community working together,” Production Manager Michelle Dean says. “We are very fortunate to do community theatre here in Dannevirke. We acknowledge all our local businesses, without whose support this wouldn’t be possible.”

This year the theatre has seen many new people joining the already experienced locals.

“It’s great seeing students working alongside pensioners, all doing their best and with no financial reward,” Michele says.

There are a few new faces in the crew, some being thrown in the deep end.

And the show is a challenge, with more than 200 lighting queues for a new lighting operator to get her head around.

There have been plenty of people stepping out of their comfort zones, from a young lad singing his first-ever solo on stage, a first-time light desk operator and a few first-time cast members.

Evita is on stage Dannevirke Town Hall Friday March 31, Saturday April 1, Thursday 6, Friday 7 and two shows on Saturday 8th (a matinee and evening show).

Tickets can be purchased through iTicket and Dannevirke Lumino Dentist. Tickets cost Adults-$40, Seniors $36, Students $26, Family ( two adults, two children) $10.
