Reflexology works from sole to soul
Marie Barnes provides the Tararua District with a reflexology service, based just out of Pahiatua and including an option to travel to your home with a treatment chair.
She started last year at the Manawatu Reflexology school, completing her course this year with a diploma. Reflexology is an holistic non-invasive complementary therapy that works on reflexes on the feet, hands or ears. Marie is also a local district nurse working within Community Health Services, she works on a casual basis at the Arohanui Hospice and is a member of the Reflexology Association. Pressure is applied to reflexes relative to all body organs and systems and helps maintain balance in the body and promoting wellbeing. Reflexologists do not diagnose, prescribe or treat specific illnesses, rather they treat the whole person.
Reflexology has been around for centuries and is becoming more popular as people learn more about the benefits of this therapy, she says.
“In the UK there are Reflexology Clinics in hospitals and it would be fantastic to see this sort of therapy integrated more into our health system,” says Marie.
Reflexology can help to reduce stress and tension, enhance general well-being, improve circulation, address digestive imbalances, aid sleeping issues, assist with depression, back problems, women’s issues, is effective in relieving pain . . . and much more.
“We need to be mindful of ourselves. Rebalancing is a great start to feel better and be more energised,” says Marie. She is available in Woodville at You Hairdressing every Tuesday afternoon to late evening. Contact her on 0276519434. Check out her website www.reflexologysoletosoul.co.nz or Facebook page reflexologysoletosoulnz. Meet Marie at the Women’s Expo in Palmerston North in the last week in April, where she will be on site with two other reflexologists.
