St Patrick’s concert full of variety

- By GLORIA MacDONALD

An appreciative audience enjoyed an evening of music and merriment when the Viking Choir presented its St Patrick’s Day concert in the Dannevirke Fountain Theatre on Friday March 17.

With Liam the Leprechaun conducting and the audience participating, this was a concert with a difference.

Alongwith a choir, the audience was treated to instrumental and vocal solos, sing-along medleys from Lion’s Pride, and Irish dancing from the Evolve Performing Arts group.

Musical director Brian Wilson had chosen a varied programme.

Choir members Lorraine Scott-Wilson and Ross Macdonald presented vocal solos, Lorraine’s Fields of Athenray contrasted with Ross Macdonald’s rollicking rendition of Wild Rover.

Accomplished musicians Liz McDougal and David Selfe performed solos on cello and piano.

The Evolve Performing Arts group performed with great precision and energy, Max Te Huki with a fast tap Paint the Town Green and the ensemble dancing Strings of Fire.

Once again the Viking Choir has treated its St Patrick’s Day audience to a varied fun-filled concert. A great night was had to be sure, to be sure!

The Viking Choir is rehearsing in the Fountain Theatre for the Anzac Concert on April 25. If you would like to participate, come along on Mondays at 7pm. The choir is looking for 10 new members and will perform two numbers — In Flanders fields (set to the famous poem) and Requiem to a Soldier (from TV Series Band of Brothers).
