Aotea show big heart in home win
After an under-strength Aotea lost their first game away last week it was a good feeling to be back home in front of enthusiastic support on Saturday (April 14) and Aotea notched a win over MAC 32-25.
Despite being heavily outweighed Aotea showed strong resolve and soon had MAC on the back foot. A penalty to Eruera Hauiti and his conversion of a try from a forward drive had Aotea 10-0 up after 10 minutes.
The game see-sawed as MAC settled down and over the remaining 30 minutes of the half both teams scored two tries (Aotea’s to Waka Petera and Jahnique Whaiteri) with MAC adding a dropped goal to have the halftime score favouring Aotea 22-13.
The lead closed to two points with an MAC try soon after the restart but Aotea scored two tries, one from a forward drive and another which raced 70 metres from a turnover .
MAC were not finished, however and a barging drive down the wing saw the side score to make the final result 32-25.
AOTEA go for a pushover try despite being outweighed.
GOOD support in the tight had Aotea on the front foot.
