Injury-hit Valkyries score draw with North End

Bush Telegraph - - Focus On Dannevirke - By DAVE MURDOCH

Dannevirke Sports Club senior football’s Valkyries have had a horrendous run of injuries early in the season.

Playing in the Manawatu Second Division two players were stood down through injury from the first game won 8-0 against Marist in Palmerston North, and within 30 minutes of Saturday’s game at home against North End two more had to be subbed off.

This threw tactics into disarray but new coach Dave Barber said it was interesting to see players step up to fill the gaps.

He said the team is rebuilding, having lost a number of experienced players from the team which was nominated for Team of the Year at the Tararua Sports Awards, along with its coach now retired, Ray Gibson.

The Valkyries went 1-0 down as positions were rearranged but after the half it evened the score, only to concede a goal.

As the second half progressed combinations were getting used to playing together and eventually another goal was netted to even the score 2-2.

Try as it might the Valkyries could not get another goal but neither could North End.

If there are players wanting to join contact Dave Barber on 06 374 7119.

TESSA Allen threads though the mid field.

REBECCA Watson was a constant threat on attack.
