It was a very gloomy wet day in Tiru­amea for Ota­pawa Poll Here­ford Stud’s 31st An­nual Sale.

The rain abated for the pre-sale pad­dock view­ing be­fore a packed­out gallery of buy­ers set­tled into strong bid­ding ac­tion, with com­mer­cial buy­ers bid­ding up to $13,500.

“All en­joyed the day with a steak lunch af­ter­wards,” said Maria Robbie from Ota­pawa Stud.

There were 32 out of 36 bulls sold with an av­er­age price of $7774. Top price of $20,000 was paid for Lot 12 Ota­pawa RipTide 6043 to Big River Here­fords Hamil­ton. Riptide 6043 was en­tered in the 1 per cent Bull Chal­lenge with the per­cent­age of sale price be­ing do­nated to the New Zealand Here­ford Youth Fundrais­ing Projects.

Lot 4 Ota­pawa Smoke 6074 sold to Bri­mai Stud Waita­hora for $13,500 and Lot 23 Ota­pawa Ammo 6050 sold to Stoneb­urn Stud Otago for $12,500.

Ev­ery­one in­volved was thanked for fol­low­ing and be­ing part of Ota­pawa’s breed­ing ini­tia­tives with their stud pro­gramme.
