First junior tournament

- By KELLY GILLARD Team manager By JIM MORTON Clay Target Club Media Rep

The Junior netball representative season has already begun with the first tournament for the year eight team in Palmerston North on Sunday June 10.

Ready to go by 7.30am the year 8s were excited to be playing their first game for the season. With Netball New Zealand making changes this year and not including year 7s into the calendar it was just the year 8s allowed at this event.

The team turned u ready to play their first game by dominating in the defence and winning many turnovers. The attackers had straight line drives and easily got the ball to the shooters. With three wins and one loss the girls came second overall.

The team thanked Nic Smyth as umpire who gave up her day to help the team.

It was a great tournament following on a tradition from last year with a photo with Irene Van Dyke and pizza on the way home. This Saturday (June 17) the Netball Rep Teams will be holding their annual car wash at New World and selling the last of their raffles which has had great support with prizes from local businesses.
