Norsewood win inter-school cross-country

- By DAVE MURDOCH

More than 200 students took part in the annual Dannevirke and Districts Primary School’s crosscountry on Thursday, June 21.

After rain in previous days Thursday dawned fine and the course was surprisingly firm.

St Joseph’s Primary School organised the event very well, held at the Dannevirke A&P Showgrounds which has ideal relief for a crosscountry event, taking in the equestrian cross-country in the valley below and east of the main ring as well as the top flats.

The juniors started at 10.30am, the girls setting good times on the 1.9km course, Sasha Kent winning the junior girls and Sam Chadwick the junior boys.

Intermediates followed, their course slightly extended on the upper half to total 2.4km and the seniors to 2.9km.

Norsewood and Districts retained the trophy from last year its runners winning four of the races (including three from the Kent family — Sasha, Erin and Jodie with Sam Chadwick), Ruahine and Districts coming second and South School third.

Results: Junior Girls: 1 Sasha Kent, 2 Alice Baxter, 3 Braven Sherrard-Chase. Junior Boys: 1 Sam Chadwick, 2 Brae Pinfold, 3 John Barrow. Intermediate Girls: Erin Trent, 2 Meg Speedy, 3 Caitlyn Murphy. Intermediate Boys: 1 Henry Speedy, 2 Connor Christian, 3 Henry Ellingham. Senior Girls: Jodie Kent, 2 Kasey McKenna, 3 Pirihera Henderson. Senior Boys: 1 Thomas Barrow, 2 Toby Walker, 3 Carson Mason.
