Latching on to celebrate breastfeeding

- By STEVE CARLE´

The Big Latch On celebrates National Breastfeeding Week and is run annually — it started in 2006. Now Pahiatua and Districts have joined in with their inaugural Big Latch On on Saturday August 4.

“This year bottle-fed babies have been included as well. It makes it inclusive for those mothers who can’t breastfeed,” says event organiser Karen Stewart. “It’s a good way of getting everyone together and supporting the cause. The venue was the Pahiatua Kohanga Reo and there was only one week to let people know it was happening.

“The town has been so supportive with businesses donating for our goodies bags. Mothers came mainly from Pahiatua with a few from Woodville to a safe place where they could talk about their journey.”

Pahiatua Community Services Trust put on a morning tea.
