Community projects complete

With the presentati­ons of the Wackrow Awards this Tuesday evening at the Hub in Allardice Street one of the Dannevirke Community Board projects will be completed for the year and others will soon follow.

The Adelaide-Smith Street walkway is undergoing some safety reshaping carried out by Bruce Hunt with the option to finish it down Cole Street also agreed.

A comprehens­ive Spring Festival programme is about to be published, with 34 events planned, starting with the opening of the Tiki 2 Gallery in High Street and Daffodil Day on August 31, and concluding with a Red Hat Society High Tea Garden Party and World War I Armistice Celebratio­ns on November 11.

With the allocation of over $50,000 in the TDC Long Term Plan for replanting trees in Victoria Avenue and King Street, the Community Board is calling together those involved in the three surveys and arborists to decide on the final plan.

At its August meeting the Community Board members responded positively to being involved in Civil Defence, following TDC District Resilience Manager Paddy Driver’s presentati­on on the need for greater Dannevirke action, and two members attended the Tararua Emergency Management Committee meeting August 9.

A request for funding to help run the Festival of Adult Learning (Adult Learners Week) September 3-9 was met with an allocation of $1000.

The Board’s World War I Committee is beginning to plan for celebratio­ns of the Armistice centenary.
