First Mt Mable yearling bull sale
Spirited bidding at auction of Angus bulls brings good prices for stud
Kevin and Megan Friel of Mt Mable Angus offered 26 yearling Angus bulls and three two-year-old bulls for sale in their bull selling ring on Jackson Road, Kumeroa on Monday September 24.
While the core business of Mt Mable Angus is breeding and selling two-year-old Angus bulls, yearling bulls had been sold in the paddock in previous years. With increasing enquiry and a large bull calf drop in 2017 it was a natural progression to auction the yearling bulls this year so that everyone could have the same opportunity to purchase the bull of their choice.
A smaller crowd than that which attends the annual twoyear-old bull sale in June did not detract from the spirited bidding where all 26 of the yearling bulls sold for an average price of $3746. The three two year olds were good buying at an average price of $4566.
Two yearling bulls made the top price of $6000 with these both going to commercial buyers, Lot 5 going to Central Hawke’s Bay and Lot 7 staying in the local area.
The vendors are understandably happy with the result and thank all those who attended and all the stock firms who were represented, especially PGG Wrightson who were also the auctioneers.
The day could not go ahead without the team of helpers made up of neighbours, family and friends.
