Eketahuna Hockey grows

Bush Telegraph - - PROPERTY MARKET - By LIESHA ATKINSON GAS Eketa¯ huna Hockey

At the start of this year who would have thought Eketa¯ huna would be able to field two hockey teams in the Wairarapa 2nd division competition.

They welcomed 17 new players into the club and had Tuis players who returned for another blast on the hockey field.

Tanmay from Eketa¯ huna Four Square and GAS Eketa¯ huna came on board and volunteered to sponsor the new team, and named them GAS Eketa¯ huna.

The team’s high vis yellow tops looked awesome.

Shellie and Katie McAnulty took on the task of coaching and managing the GAS team. They did a brilliant job wrangling the troops each week.

Eketa¯ huna had a pretty full-on season, with loads of ups and downs. Highlights were the Tui vs GAS battles which resulted in draws both times.

This showed the talent and ability to gel as a team, even as GAS was a new bunch of women.

Eke Tuis went into this season feeling there was someone important missing. Tuis late coach, Grahame Hamilton would have been stoked to have seen two team playing for Eketa¯ huna. And as a tribute they had new shirts printed with RIP GH on the sleeve. Logan and Elaine Atkinson sponsored the new shirts.

Tuma and Jess Hogg managed the Tuis sideline. Frances Hamilton donated new goalie gear, a goalie bag, balls, helmet etc.

The team is thankful for this and for her continuing support of the Eketa¯ huna club.
