School days ending for Year 13s

Bush Telegraph - - FOCUS ON FARMING -

The end is near for our senior students, especially our Year 13s who head out into the big wide world, after their NCEA examinations.!

The final Achievers’ Assembly was a bittersweet moment of pride, joy and sadness as our Year 13s said goodbye to the school and staff who have housed their education for the last five years.

Jordyn Lowe and Josh Prince presented their valedictory speeches, reflecting on their time at DHS, and imparting wise words on their peers, to work hard, achieve and try new things.

Following on from this assembly was the annual Leavers’ Dinner. Guest speaker Will Wallace was a familiar face, having visited Dannevirke High School earlier this year, being an old boy of the school. It was wonderful to hear him speak of his successes and encourage our Year 13s to work hard for theirs.

On Tuesday November 6, Dannevirke Reap, the Toy Library and Dannevirke High School worked together to bring to the youngest members of our community the Let’s Move It initiative. There were 56 children of five years and under who enjoyed the activities set up in the DHS gymnasium. The children were able to explore a new environment and challenge themselves to new experiences.

It was wonderful to see the fun the children were having, and even a few adults who showed their skills on the gymnastics equipment. There would have been some tired children in the afternoon, and most likely caregivers, too!

For the remainder of the year our DHS juniors will be participating in a number of important events at school.

There will be a number of days testing in some classes, as well as inter-house events and activity week. Year 10 camp week will be here before we know it.
