Busy week for the Lions

- By DAVE MURDOCH

It was a busy week in the Dannevirke Host Lions Club.

There were three ceremonies increasing the membership.

On Wednesday evening November 14 a new member was inducted.

Pauline Brown has become the sixth new member in as many months.

In the same meeting, long-serving Lions Maurice Millar (47 years) and Dave Murdoch (45 years) received Life Memberships.

Both are former presidents and have been active in their time in Lions. (see related article).

Several days later Colin and Wendy Young from Napier received a certificate confirming Wendy’s uncle John Davidson had been added to the Lions International Honour Roll.

John passed away in the recently completed Lions’ year after 50 years of membership and was also a Life Member.

Meanwhile Lions activities continue. The club has just donated $2550 to the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter, which was proceeds from the Small Holders Auction in April.

With its Christmas Party for the elderly on Sunday November 25, marshalling for the Silver Fern Rally taking place on November 29, followed by marshalling for the Dannevirke Christmas Parade and building Santa’s float ready for December 1 together with completing the Domain electric barbecue ready for summer, the club says it needs all the new members it can get.
