Get ready to Mo

Bush Telegraph - - HEALTH & WELL BEING - By DAVE MURDOCH

Movember is an international charity organisation which is hooking men up with simple steps, making it easier to take care of their health.

They say men are dying six years earlier than women, for reasons that are largely preventable.

Originally started to counter prostate cancer deaths, the charity has expanded its focus to testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention in men.

The Movember campaign raises money to further this campaign and owners of Merrylees Hotel in Dannevirke, Nicola McLean and Dan Phillips, run a local fundraiser — the Merrylees Movember Competition.

Up for grabs to the winner is two tickets to the upcoming Eagles concert. This will be won by the Best Grown Moustache with a another prize for the Most Creative Facial Hair.

Over20 entrants signed up on October 31, had their facial hair removed, photos taken and paid a $10 fee, the proceeds going to the Movember NZ Foundation.

Most entrants had had some connection with prostate cancer, which had motivated them to get involved. The winner will be revealed on Friday November 30 at the Merrylees Hotel starting at 6.30pm.
