Wedged between days of rain, the Dannevirke and Districts Primary School Athletics competition got through in perfect weather at the Dannevirke Domain Wednesday November 21.

The day ran like clockwork, with Huia Range the hosting school. Eight schools were involved: Huia Range, South, Weber, To¯ tara College, Te Kura Kaupapa, St Joseph’s, Ruahine and Norsewood.

Each age-group rotated through four field and two track events with sufficient time to give all participants a go.

Four records fell, two to Jodie Kent — the Senior 100 metres and Long Jump, Leevi Tukaki — Senior Boys Long Jump and Emma Hogan Senior Girls Discus.

Dannevirke South took out two of the relays the Intermediate and Junior with St Joseph’s winning the Senior by a lunge from Huia Range.

A large group of children performed at their best in front of their peers, teachers, coaches and families.

The day was all wrapped up by 2.15pm and a thunderstorm burst about 3pm.
