Change of leadership after great year
“Increasing membership, a strong balance sheet, dedicated volunteers and men’s and women’s golf teams performing at the top level in Hawkes Bay competitions is a recipe for a club with a fantastic future.”
So said outgoing President Brendan Poole at the Dannevirke Golf Club’s AGM on Monday November 19.
There was plenty of evidence to back up his claims. Club membership has risen 3.2 per cent in the last year, the club reported an increase in profit over the last financial year and teams representing the Dannevirke Club have pulled of some great results.
The men managed a win in the Rosebowl Tournaments between the five local clubs. A team also won the Sister’s Club event at Weedons in Christchurch, following up its win at home last year and Dannevirke came second to Pongaroa in the Coronation Cup.
Our ladies won the southern zone section of the Ashcott Cup and play the final against old foe Te Pohue/Puketitri in the final in December.
Margaret Stephenson was also selected to represent Hawkes Bay in the Judy Pearson Tournament against Manawatu.
Club champions have been decided for the year:
Senior Men – Patrick Harold; Intermediate A - George Freeman; Intermediate B - Chris Peck, Junior A – Norm Evans; Junior B – Kevyn Belk.
Senior Women – Margaret Stephenson; Intermediate – Margaret Treacy; Junior Chris Riddell.
