Two young football players from Pahiatua are representing Manawatu¯ — Aimee Powick (11) and Austyn Beales (10), playing for Central Football Manawatu¯ .

“Aimee was selected to play up an age group representing the U-12 Manawatu¯ girls’ team, due to her ability, physical presence and excellent communication skills,” said Central Football development officer Barry Scullion.

“She has become a leader among her peers and has consistently performed and has the potential to become a federation player.”

Aimee started with Central Football last year after applying to trial.

She has been playing football for the last four years.

“I didn’t think I was that good when I started.

“I still enjoyed it though,” she said.

She has improved her game since starting as a centre back for Manawatu¯ Under 12s.

“The competition has improved my skills,” she said.

“My goal is to play for the Football Ferns.”

Austyn Beales has only been playing football since 2017 and was invited to trial for the Manawatu¯ representative team last year. His position is attacking mid-field.

“Austyn has been really impressive this year with his work rate in training and attitude to continuous development,” Scullion said.

“He was moved up to the U-11 squad for the final few trainings on game day due to his performances and how he impressed me.

“Austin was awarded the MVP for the U-10 group which has 24 players, two years in a row,” said Scullion.

Austyn has excelled at running, the youngest in the field of a half-marathon against adults when he was eight years old — placed eighth overall.
