KB Ford shine in lights competition

- By DAVE MURDOCH

Plenty of nervous and excited participants in the 19th Annual Dannevirke Christmas Lights competition flocked in to the For Homes office at 5.15pm on December 20 to hear if they had won a prize.

Thanks to generous sponsors there were many who walked away with valuable prizes, even if it was only a spot prize.

This year both the judges’ choices and the popular vote were the same for the top placing in each category.

KB Ford followed up its huge Christmas Parade success with a win in the Business House Lights category. The judges commented, “It was a clear-cut winner, original, great theme and detailed. A big effort had gone into this and the lighting set the mood.”

Derek’s Electrical was second according to the judges, saying it portrayed a “great family orientated story, children focused and again the lighting matched the scene”.

Shires was second and Activate Gym was third in the public vote while Busy Bees won the judges’ Best New Business Entrant and Best Use of lights.

The Walker household was thrilled to win both the judges’ and public vote as best lit house, Terry saying there were 26,000 lights on display and he has plans for more next year. Can you find a space?

Second was 17 King St according to the judges but public vote went to 2 Manilla St, along with third to 35 Swinburn St. Best new entrant for house lights was 4 MacLaurin St.

There were many entries in the colouring competition, Ani Lork winning the 3-5 age group, Zack Gore winning the 6-9 age group and Jarnah Augustine winning the 9 and over age group.

The Christmas Lights competition continues to expand over its 19 years. Speaking for the organisers For Homes, Craig Boyden said they were really grateful to the generous sponsors, particularly chief sponsor Scanpower, and the many entrants which made it such a worthwhile event.

The Daneline Bus tour on December 19 took 36 passengers from the Fantasy Cave start, around the neighbourhood.
