Family v kids at football prizegiving
A great ending to the Woodville football season commenced with the annual family verses kids matches before the prize giving.
Each of the Woodville junior football teams squared off against their coaches and family in a friendly game. “I’ve been playing for 11 years and have never beaten the kids yet,” Club secretary and coach Paul Cleghorn said. The games were followed by a prize giving, sausage sizzle and lolly scramble, ending the season on a high.
The prize giving had all players presented with a team photo and T-shirt. The most improved player and most valuable player trophies were presented to players from the 7 and 9 aside grades. Congratulations to most improved players Lena Thiebaut, Nikita Palmer, Luca Dittmer-Smith and Kalani Heslin, and to most valuable players Ryker Hanks, William Teulon, Alex McLeod and Elizabeth Laws.
This year the club presented the Kevin Hanks Memorial Trophy for Sportsmanship. Kevin Hanks was a valued club member and friend who was tragically killed in a car accident earlier this year. The award was presented by Kevin’s wife Robyn Hanks, and received by Elizabeth Laws for demonstrating a good attitude and behaviour both on and off the field.
Elizabeth played for Tararua Camper Hire 9-aside grade and also assisted with coaching the Woodville Property Brokers first kicks and the Woodville Service Centre 7-aside team in the Tararua Hub competition. The club thanked its many sponsors who have helped make the season another success for the players.
Over the warmer months the Woodville club is offering Summer Football for the first time in many years.
This is a great initiative that allows members of the Tararua District to come along and have a kick around in a fun and friendly community environment.
