From Sole to Soul

- By STEVE CARLE´

Marie Barnes has been providing reflexology over the last three years for people living in the Tararua area with her business Reflexology Sole to Soul NZ.

“Reflexology is an holistic, noninvasive, complementary treatment that works by applying pressure to reflexes in the feet, hands or ears relative to all body system’s organs — glands,” says Marie.

“Reflexology helps to rebalance the body, promoting a feeling of wellbeing. Reflexology helps with: stress, tension, improves circulation, addresses digestive imbalances, improves sleep, depression, women’s issues and is effective for relieving pain. Reflexology is being more recognised in New Zealand.”

Marie is also now certified in reflexology lymph drainage. This helps in the management of lymphodema following treatment for breast cancer and indications also suggest RLD may assist with fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory, auto-immune disorders, pregnancy and pre-menstrual fluid retention.

She receives referrals from the Arohanui Hospice palliative care community nurses and the Cancer Society. Clients/patients can ask to be referred to Marie by these services.

“Next year, myself and another reflexology colleague are going to join eight others from around the world, visiting Tanzania in Africa to do volunteer work,” said Marie. “I am very excited and looking forward to this. To help fund my costs I am doing spa days — at your home — where you book a group and I will provide foot spa/foot massage and finish with reflexology.

“Relax and rejuvenate while helping a good cause! A portion of the proceeds will go to Jiendeleze Women’s Organisation. Jiendeleze Women’s Organisation was established to empower women and enable them to better help themselves and their families. “Don’t forget Christmas is fast approaching. I have reflexology vouchers available.”
