Lions support chopper service

- By WARREN JONES Woodville Lions Club

On December 14, Woodville Lions Club will again be running their Coast to Coast Motorcycle Ride from Himatangi to Akitio — one coast to the other.

This offers a day out on the motorbike and a celebration at noon in Woodville. We’re really keen to see the public come along, as all the proceeds from this event go to continue support for the Rescue Helicopter based in Palmerston North. We will be running the usual number of spot prizes and look forward to having a most enjoyable day. We hope the riders have the time of their lives.

Woodville Lions Club enjoys a particularly warm and close relationship with the Rescue Helicopter service, having supported it for 27 years now.

Stewart Davies (formerly from Pahiatua) trustee for Philips Search and Rescue Trust Palmerston North, is quick to point out that Woodville Lions Club and Manawatu¯ Toyota are their two longest-serving donors to the chopper.

This has meant over the years, the acquisition of plant, equipment and technology for the machine — which services our patch normally.

It makes it quite desirable even within the fleet as its particularly well set-up.

There’s every reason to believe that will not change in future.

We note with considerable satisfaction and enjoyment the fact that now the new-look Rescue Helicopter Trust Service is one of total integration. Machines are freely interchangeable. Crews can render operable all equipment which can be moved to give flexibility that has not been there in the past.

It adds up to one hell of a service. We certainly are extremely privileged to have it. We’re very proud to be able to support it.
