Woodville’s record-breaking motorcycle ride

-

For the past 26 years Woodville Lions Club has staged a motorcycle ride to raise funds for the Manawatu¯ -Wanganui Rescue Helicopter service.

Known all over as the Suzuki Coast to Coast, the ride is well established on the New Zealand motorcycling calendar.

Departing from Himatangi Beach on the West Coast, riders travel through the Manawatu¯ to Woodville, where they all become part of the colourful, noisy village Santa Parade. All participants stop for a free lunch and refreshments at Fountaine Square in Woodville, before journeying on to Akitio on the East Coast — a total run of some 200km.

A feature of the ride is the awesome prizes that are part of the event’s strong appeal to sponsors and supporters alike. This year the Woodville Lions/Suzuki Coast to Coast ride will take place on

Saturday, December 14 with registration at Himatangi Beach Community Rooms opening from 8.30am.

With past record numbers of riders exceeding 500, from all parts of New Zealand and overseas, this year organisers are looking to once again deliver a substantial boost to aid our region’s lifesaving rescue helicopter. All proceeds from the ride go to the Manawatu¯ -Wanganui Rescue Helicopter service.

From its ride’s 26-year history Woodville Lions have gifted over $200,000, helping our rescue helicopter become one of the bestequipped life-saving air ambulance operations in the country, one a growing number of road users and the general public have cause to be thankful for.

Woodville Lions Club is proud of the history it has been making, living the Lion’s motto — “We Serve”.
