Kick4Kevin fundraiser for rescue helicopter charity
The Woodville Association Football Club is hosting a fundraising event as a memorial match to honour its long-standing committee member Kevin Hanks who was killed in an accident last year.
Kevin’s 13-year-old son was critically injured in the accident and was airlifted to Wellington Hospital by the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter.
The fundraising event is being held over the coming weekend of February 8-9 in the form of a 24-hour non-stop football match, with all proceeds to be donated to Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter, the club says. This is the club’s and wider community’s chance to thank this valuable and vital service.
The club is seeking players of any skill level to participate in the event by making a small donation of at least $10 per player to play unlimited hours.
Players are also encouraged to gain individual sponsorship.
Registrations have been steady, with options for individuals or teams to register.
Games will be in one-hour blocks and any special requests for games against friends, rival teams or another business can be arranged.
The club says the support it has already received from many businesses in the community has been incredible.
“It is wonderful to see how the Tararua community rallies together. There will be spot prizes throughout the day, also prizes for the most hours played and for the most sponsorship raised.”
The club says the opportunity to be part of the fundraising event will show support for the Hanks family and for the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter. Robyn Hanks and family are supporting the event.
Play will start at 9am Saturday February 8 and finish at 9am on Sunday February 9. Games run in 24 one-hour time slots with teams of nine-a-side and a minimum of five on field at all times.
