Art exhibition spreads its wings

Woodville’s Lindauer Studio committee is putting on its third annual art exhibition, and it promises to be bigger, more diverse and more successful than ever before.

Artists from any medium are invited to exhibit, and their work will be on display for 12 days at the Woodville Racecourse from March 7.

Exhibition organiser Bruce Hutton said: “There is amazing depth of talent on display including objects from glass, sculpture, painting and etching.

“This year we have an added drawcard – seven items accepted at the Wearable Arts Awards over the years that have been created by Pat Herbert of Dannevirke. They are absolutely stunning.”

The Lindauer Studio committee hosts an artist from Pilsen in the Czech

Republic in alternate years. The arrangement celebrates the link between Woodville’s most famous son, Gottfried Lindauer, a photographer and portrait painter, who was born in Pilsen. Lindauer lived in Pinfold Road for the last 36 years of his life and is buried in the Old Gorge cemetery.

This year, artist-in-residence from the Czech Republic, Jana Hylmarova, will be exhibiting work carried out in Woodville earlier this year as part of her stay in the town.

In addition, Czech Consul-General Hana Flanderova, who is based in Sydney, will attend the official opening of the exhibition and will spend several days in the Tararua District meeting local people and visiting the Lindauer Studio. A contingent of Czech people living in the region has also been invited along to the official opening.

Hutton said: “All this would not be possible without the assistance given to us by Scanpower to host the artist-inresidence and to promote our exhibition. We would like to thank Scanpower for participating in this community event, which is becoming more established and starting to attract artists from other
