Creativity in many A&P show entries
Dannevirke A&P Show’s Home Industries had many fans on the Saturday, some mechanical to reduce the atmospheric heat and many human, to view the exhibits on display.
Entries were up on last year and the standard was high.
The variety of entries ranged from the traditional knitted, crocheted and sewn goods to crafts, cooking, jams and preserves, garden vegetables, many flowers and some creative children’s entries.
It was a momentous day for Karaline Francis of Woodville as she was retiring from entering the show this year after 55 years of contributions.
Her win in the Machine Sewing was another of her quilts, but it was one entry of 22 she submitted involving knitted shawls, a child’s matinee set, a patchwork book, scones, shortbread, jam, beetroot, flowers and a child’s soft toy.
At the prize-giving president Pam Henricksen thanked Karaline for her huge contributions.
She says she set the standard and her entries will be sorely missed.
Rua Roa won the court competition from Horoeka-Ti Tree Point but both had remarkable items reflecting the theme of Norway.
Over in the corner a slight drop in the photographic entries did not reflect any decline in quality.
Organiser Roger Burson put the high standard down to vastly better phone cameras which mean the special moment can be captured quickly with accuracy.
The Supreme award went to
Ella Hendy, with Alex Noera winning the Secondary section and Matthew Olsen the Primary section.
