New wheels for patrol
Locals may have noticed the newly marked Dannevirke Community Patrol vehicle in operation around the town, freshly branded in the livery of Community Patrols of New Zealand .
The silver Hyundai iX35 replaces the blue Ford Focus which has for the past five years become a familiar sight around the district. Because of the support of the Monty Fairbrother Trust and a supportive team at Tararua District Council, the patrol has recently been able to procure from the Council, as part of their vehicle renewal programme, a good upgrade for community patrolling.
The 4WD Hyundai not only provides the extra capability of a 4WD for a rural-based community patrol, it also provides better elevation for observational purposes and a more comfortable set-up for night patrollers, who always clock longer vehicle hours and regularly exceed 100km in a single patrol duty.
The support of the Monty Fairbrother Trust acknowledges the Dannevirke Community Patrol volunteers in support of the New Zealand Police in their efforts to create a safer community for all in Dannevirke town and district. DVCP members appreciate the support.
Dannevirke Community Patrol has been operating for almost 30 years, the last seven of which have been as a fully affiliated member of the national parent body, charitable trust CPNZ.
Presently DVCP has more than 30 active volunteer patrollers, covering day and night patrol rosters. The organisation is always interested to hear from people in the community genuinely interested in considering being a community patrol member, a process which requires a police validation and undertaking some basic patrol training.
