Nail-biting intense final battle against Mt Roskill, our team scoring the only goal

- Bridget Bailey Sports Coordinator Tararua College

What a season the Tararua College Girls 1st XI hockey team have had this year, culminating in a major win. They played in the Secondary Schools Intercity 2 competition in Palmerston North on Thursday nights, ending up in third place for points totals. They faced Horowhenua College in the semis, winning 3-2.

They then headed to the finals the following week against Whanganui High School 1st XI, all playing their hearts out in a very close game. The final score was 0-0 so the decider went to shoot outs — TC winning 4-2.

A tremendous season by all the players, coming away with the welldeserved win and trophy.

This set the girls up to play in the Upper North Island Girls Tier 4 Hockey Tournament in Whakatane for tournament week the following Sunday.

The week started with two games on the Monday, their first against

Rutherford College, resulting in a 11-0 win. Some good team work and some amazing goals were scored.

Their second game was later in the afternoon, which was a closer battle, but they still managed to come away with the 2-0 win against Aquinas College.

Day 2 on Tuesday was another fantastic day, their first morning game against Mt Roskill, which was quite a tight game, but the girls came away with a 3-1 win.

They then played Rotorua Lakes in the evening and that was a huge 9-0 win.

With all pool games now being played, they moved to the semi-finals on Thursday against Pinehurst School, having another fantastic game — winning 7-0.

This meant they moved to the finals for Friday.

Friday arrived, after waiting all day (having to clean up and move out of their accommodation) the girls were pumped and ready for the big game and, oh, what a game it was.

Our fantastic girls beat Mt Roskill in a very nail-biting intense battle taking the win 1-0.

It was an amazing game and everyone played so well.

Also congratulations to Abby Treder for being the top goal scorer of the tournament.

It was a fantastic end to a great week of hockey. Coaches Janelle Toheriri and Korey Broughton and team managers Raylene Treder and Karen O’Donnell did an awesome job with the team this year.

The girls truly are amazing and have had such an awesome year!
