Calling all Cambridge photographers

- EMMA JAMES

If you’ve always wanted to see your photo featured in a showroom, now’s your chance.

Cambridge Glass is calling all local photographers – from amateurs to professionals – to send in their favourite photos of the district.

The last thing they have to do before their showroom is finished is create a glass splashback with a photo.

But instead of choosing something generic, owner Jos Philip decided to run a competition.

She’s asking for Cambridge people to take a photo of any of the things that make the Waipa town special.

‘‘We have Lake Karapiro, we have the churches, it could be anything that’s recognised as Cambridge landscape,’’ she said.

‘‘We thought it would be neat to have something local up there, to portray what we do. We’re the latest company in the district to provide glass art.’’

She said the competition is open to anyone, but the photo has to be of high quality and at least 150 ppi (pixels per inch). It also has to be landscape in shape, as portrait images won’t fit the space.

‘‘Phone cameras just aren’t going to cut it, it has to be taken on a camera otherwise it will be too grainy,’’ she said.

Jos has owned the store with her husband Glenn for 10 years, but Glenn has been working at the business since 1993.

When they purchased the business they gave it a bit of a revamp, but Jos said the showroom has been a work in progress, and the splashback is the final touch.

There is an example of a glass splashback in their shop under the fish tank, for anyone wanting to have a look before they submit photos.

There are three prizes. The person who comes first will have their image printed on glass and displayed at the Cambridge Glass showroom on Commerce St.

Second will receive their entry image printed on glass and ready to hang at 510x150mm, and third will receive their image printed on glass at 420x300mm.

Photos can be submitted by disk, email or USB and entry forms are available from Cambridge Glass. Entries close Monday July 11.
