Police tour ready for Cambridge

Cambridge will be host to a range of police activities as celebratio­ns for the Women in Police 75th anniversar­y begin.

On Monday, July 11 there will be a large display at Victoria Square, including search and rescue, dogs, the armed offenders squad, a booze bus display and demonstrat­ions of the physical competency test, which members of the public can have a go at.

It will run from 2.30pm – 4pm and is the last event of the day.

As part of the celebratio­ns, two batons will be passed along the country. One from the tip of the North Island, and one from the tip of the South Island. They will meet in Wellington.

On Monday, July 11, the day will start at 8.15am with a march down Victoria St in Hamilton to Garden Place for a mayoral civic reception.

Then at 10am there will be runners, Harley motorcycle­s, and people on horseback taking the baton to Te Awamutu, with a lunch at 12.30pm.

At 1pm, they will bring the baton to Karapiro, then the activities start at Victoria Square in Cambridge at 2.30pm.

On Tuesday at 8am, the baton will be cycled around the velodrome and be used in a rowing challenge before being cycled to Morrinsvil­le at 8.30am.

At 10.30am there will be a horse and cart taking it down the main street of the town, then Ministry of Transport cars will take it to Te Aroha Golf Club.

From there the baton will be taken up Mt Te Aroha at 11.30am, and taken along the cycle track to Paeroa.

At 3pm there will be a mayoral reception with vintage cars and the Paeroa L&P bottle.

On Wednesday at 8am the baton will be cycled through to the Waikato Steam Train, which will take it to Waihi.

At 11am it will be cycled to the Waihi Police Station for morning tea, then be taken in a car to the Waihi Beach Surf Club at 11.45am.

It will then be taken in an inflatable rescue boat, paddle board and kayak to Athenree.

At 1.30pm Ministry of Transport cars will take it to Katikati, and 2pm will mark the official handover to the Bay of Plenty.
