It was a meeting that may never have eventuated. Bride Kelsey was finishing her second year at uni and hadn’t been going out much as her father was very sick.

‘I got invited to a party with some friends and thought I may as well get out and take my mind off things for a bit. When I was at the party a friend brought along his mate Nick. We started chatting and just hit it off straight away. And as they say, the rest is history!’

Nick proposed to Kelsey in front of the Skógafoss Waterfall, Iceland. ‘Nick had asked a fellow tourist to take some photos of us but hadn’t told her what he was planning on doing. I don’t know who was more shocked – her or me!’

The pair opted for a summer wedding, as many of their guests were overseas, and it would work well for those planning to be home for Christmas.

Their ceremony was in the garden at Toby Hill Farm, overlooking the Waimakariri River and the mountains. Nick’s sister sang

Kelsey up the aisle to ‘How Long Will I Love You’ by Ellie Goudling. ‘It was really special. And we both wrote our own vows. They were perfectly us.’

Following the ceremony, they thoroughly enjoyed playing backyard cricket with some of their guests, before moving to other parts around Toby Hill Farm for their bridal photos.

‘It’s so hard to pick a favourite as Sarah [Clements] is a mastermind and every photo is incredible. Nope, I actually can’t pick just one – you can’t do that to me!’

They had a subtle travel theme to their reception: their seating plan and table numbers were the couple’s favourite places to travel, and their menu was full of their favourite international dishes.

‘The reception was full of so many laughs and love. The food was delicious, all the speeches were great, our MC who is a good friend was amazing and the dance floor was used the whole night. It was just a whole lot of fun!

‘Nick and I had made our own first dance up by either making the moves up ourselves or watching YouTube tutorials. We were both really nervous about the dance but it was so much fun doing it and once that was over we could relax.’

Memorably, Nick ripped his pants in the first move of their dance. ‘Maybe we should have had his pants double-stitched, although who are we kidding? The infamous pants-ripping was one of the highlights!’

After dinner, they snuck away with their photographer for some sunset photos. ‘Nick and I had a quiet moment with just the two of us where we excitedly reflected on the amazing day we had had so far.’
