Right advice and range from The Athlete’s Foot

-

It’s that time of year again, where kids are having the time of their lives in the heat of summer, and parents are counting the minutes until the school holidays end.

As the start of the school year approaches, parents can be inundated with all the preparation that goes with it… uniforms, stationery and getting back into some sort of routine. School shoes can be a particular source of stress. Brand vs budget, school policy vs what’s cool (and not!)… there’s a lot to factor in.

Well fear not parents, the team at The Athlete’s Foot St Lukes are here to help make shopping for school shoes a little easier. They know the importance of correctly fitted shoes for children to help with performance and reduce the risk of injury and problems.

With a shoe expertly fitted by one of the Fit Technicians, your child will have the right support for all the school activities and sports they take part in every day. The Athlete’s Foot is also helping to reward local schools with their School Rewards Programme. A donation of either sporting equipment, store vouchers or cash is given to local schools for every pair of school or sports shoes purchased. Find out in-store if your school is involved.

Top Tips to buying school shoes:

Check your school’s uniform policy first – do they only allow formal footwear or are sports shoes acceptable?

Shop in the afternoon – feet swell after a day of activity so fitting at this time means shoes will be comfortable all day long.

Buy the best shoes you can afford. Quality shoes are more expensive, but in the long run they can save you money as they won’t break down or wear so quickly. They also offer more shoe technology, which means more comfort, support and stability.

Don’t super-size - while it’s tempting to buy shoes that allow for growth it’s better to buy shoes that fit right now. It’s unlikely feet will catch up adequately before the shoe wears out and a too-big shoe causes slips, trips and falls.

Listen to your child’s feedback – the right shoe should be immediately comfortable and not need ‘breaking in’.

An accurate measure is the key to getting the right fit. Perfectly fitting shoes prevent discomfort, injury and development of chronic foot problems that can last a lifetime.
