Honouring our Anzac heroes LIVE LOCAL, LOVE LOCAL WITH AUCKLAND COUNCIL
Anzac Day is an opportunity to pay tribute to our soldiers who served and died during war, and to honour returned and current service personnel.
This year’s Anzac Day will be different. With Omicron still around and the health and safety of veterans the most important consideration, the number of services across the region has been reduced, and the dawn service at the Auckland War Memorial Museum will be for veterans and invited guests only.
Despite the challenges, Auckland Council and the Auckland Returned and and Services Association (RSA) are working together to provide plenty of opportunities for you to pay respects to our service personnel wherever you are in Tāmaki Makaurau.
COMMEMORATING AT HOME
Aucklanders are encouraged to again participate in the #StandAtDawn initiative. The dawn service will be broadcast on Māori Television and some local services will be live-streamed. Before Anzac Day, Aucklanders are encouraged to decorate their letterbox or front window to show support for veterans.
LIGHTING UP IN HONOUR OF VETERANS
Vector Lights will shine poppy-red on the
Auckland Harbour Bridge from 6pmmidnight April 19-21 for Poppy Day and again from 6pm-midnight on April 22-25 to commemorate Anzac Day.
Other key landmarks across the city centre will also be lit poppy-red in honour of our veterans.
These include the War Memorial Museum, Sky Tower and the PWC building.
Please visit ourauckland.nz/anzacday for more details of how you can commemorate and honour our nation’s service personnel both past and present.
