Your guide to picking the right flooring
When you think of wood flooring, do you think luxurious, rich, warm, texture and style? The team at Just Hardwood Floors certainly does, and they have the right flooring solution for your home or space.
Making the right choice of flooring for your home is not only a massive investment in terms of cost, it is also a building block for the very foundation of your home. The Just Hardwood Floors team is often asked about the differences between their flooring ranges.
Solid timber flooring is just that, solid hardwood. This means that each plank is manufactured from one single piece of wood. Solid timber flooring is nowhere near as stable as engineered timber flooring and our humid climate can cause planks to expand and contract. As this is a raw product, on-site sanding and coating is required after installation, which also impacts the overall cost of a solid timber floor.
Engineered timber flooring is made up of a top-wear layer (or veneer) of real wood (generally 3, 4 or 6mm thick), which is then fixed to a multi-layer core of a stable timber, such as a plywood or hevea that is glued cross-directionally and pressed together. Engineered timber flooring is a lot more stable than solid timber, as there is only the top wear layer of real wood and has the added benefit of the cross-directional construction.
Featuring bevelled edges, brushed or band sawn surfaces and varying widths and thicknesses, we have a solution for every home. The added bonus of engineered timber flooring is that there are some great colour options available in the factoryfinished prefinished engineered ranges (Euro-ProLoc, Quick Step, Pergo), or, as an even better alternative, the Euro-PRO range is custom coated in the Just Hardwood Floors warehouse using a stunning range of Italian oils and hard waxes.
Laminates and engineered timber flooring are often confused with each other. A laminate is manufactured from a high-density fibre board, with a photo or print of a plank of wood on top, and a melamine top layer. The construction of these laminate ranges makes them incredibly durable and all are dent, fade and scratch resistant, as well as most price points within the ranges having a water-repellent surface coating.
