Arts roundup delivers music for all

Now that it seems like summer finally came to its senses, there are still a few outdoor events around the Auckland area to enjoy says Edna Heled.

EarthBeat takes place over 5 days, from March 22 to 26, in the beautiful Atiu Creek Regional Park, 75 minutes from Auckland, As its name indicates, this is an earth-positive music and arts festival with well-selected music performanc­es on five stages, workshops and engaging activities for the whole family to dance, play, learn, discuss, debate and connect.

The lineup of music styles includes world, reggae, electronic­a, dub, trance, folk, blues, deep house and more, with highlights such as The Black Seeds, Pitch Black, Mo’

Horizons, Jah’s Bazaar, Alice Sea, Kaya Project, and many more top-class musicians.

The kaupapa, purpose and vision of this unique gathering in nature is to bring people together to experience harmony with each other, and with the earth: ‘‘True wellbeing happens when we harmonise our individual dance of life to the beat of the earth.’’

A fundraiser event is happening on March 20, when Aotearoa’s hospitalit­y industry – including several Auckland restaurant­s – will put on a two-course dinner, with proceeds going to support those impacted by the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle.

On April 1, for one night only, Footnote New Zealand Dance company – Aotearoa’s longestrun­ning contempora­ry dance company – in collaborat­ion with MascallDan­ce, will bring to the Q Theatre, 305 Queen St. ‘‘The Impossible Has Already Happened’’.

With the recent floods, the dance piece that tells two nations’ stories of water sustaining, nourishing, yet disrupting our planet, is topical and relevant.
